Smart Audio Guide for Self-Guided Tours
This ultralight monaural earphone is a wearable automatic audio guide to visit museums, galleries and several other tourist sites. Its precision positioning system automatically triggers audio message when visitors come close to the particular objects. The lightweight on-ear design makes it comfortable to wear for an entire day. As it is not directed connected to the ears, the devices creates a memorable experience for each site.

Museums exhibit rich information and interesting objects from where tourists can learn about history. Audio guides in museum play a crucial role for the entire museum experience. It offers pre-recorded commentary about exhibits and tells interesting stories to visitors. However, only parts of the objects’ information are delivered by the audio guides, mainly because of the current positioning technology that have a limited accurate visitor position.
Legacy positioning today: Over the years, a variety of experiments have been made for indoor positioning in museums, such as RFID or Bluetooth-based positioning techniques. The inherent limitations of these basic technologies are making them unreliable to determine visitors’ exact location and trigger the audio content within a short distance. It has greatly impacted the efficiency and only a small portion of the exhibits can be covered by audio guides. The visitors also tend to be susceptible to positioning errors like atmospheric effects etc.
High-precision positioning with sub-meter accuracy innovated by DepthLink: This revolutionary technology has been applied to all the DepthLink audio guides. High-precision positioning means detecting your location precisely across any environment and weather condition. DepthLink has explored the novel technologies in precision positioning to deliver more information to museum visitors via audio guide systems. Hence, this tour guide system has significantly improved positioning accuracy and reliability, reduced the distance of the objects from 3-5 meters to a minimum of 0.5 meters. Now the system is accurate (about 50 cm or so) to pin-point the visitors’ position, providing more supplementary information and context and allowing the visitors to make the most of the visit.

How does it work?
The visitor enters the exhibition and receives a ready-to-use headset. No other device will be handed out. The visitor will just have to put on the headphones and start exploring the exhibition.
The beacons/transmitters need to be preinstalled near the objects, which are used to automatically trigger the audio content. It is accurate to 0.5-meter as the minimum distance between two objects.
